TikTok Growth Secrets for Creators

As one of the largest social media platforms on the web today, TikTok is a powerful ally. The ubiquitous video hosting platform has revolutionized how we communicate, share content, and market products. Its power to engage and connect with younger viewers is especially powerful for creators and marketers. All of this adds up to the simple fact that it’s important to master the art of creating content on TikTok.

This may sound like a daunting task, but it’s surprisingly simple! There are a few ways to immediately spice up and elevate your content. Today, I’m excited to share with you some of my must-know secrets when it comes to your content

The 3 TikTok Basics

Before you begin to improve your content, you need to know your goals. Any marketer or content creator should be striving for three basic things when they’re making videos. Each of the tricks I’ll be telling you about today are geared towards boosting the power of these basic pillars of content, which are:
  1. Engagement
  2. Visual appeal
  3. Shareability
All three of these components work together to push your videos to the top of people’s For You Page home screen.

Engage Viewers with Questions

The root of your content should be engagement. The more comments and reactions your video gets, the more attention it will draw. That’s why you should always create content that’s geared towards sparking a discussion.

One of the best ways to get people talking is to ask a question! You can do this at the end of your video, or you can do so in the video’s caption. But it can’t just be any question. Your question should be something that both interests and engages your viewers. The best questions will either invite opinions or offer people a chance to discuss their shared experiences. You’ll also want to avoid loaded questions, as these are prone to spinning out of control.

Use Movement for a Visual Pop

Even the most engaging content can’t stand on its own without a good video. When you’re creating TikTok content, you’ll also need visual appeal. An eye-catching video is the difference between being seen and being ignored.

Even the simplest videos can be spiced up by adding a bit of movement. While a video of someone talking may be good enough, adding a bit of motion helps to draw the eye in. There are a few ways to do this.
  • Jump cuts add a bit of variety and visual contrast to otherwise bland videos.
  • Zooms can be used to emphasize a point.
  • “Walking and talking” is a great way to provide natural motion without getting too fancy with your video editing.
All of these tactics can be deployed in varying quantities across your videos. In some instances, you may want to only use one or two of these tricks, but other videos may work better with all of them at once! Exactly how you utilize these tactics is up to you and how you want to style your videos.

 Curate Shareable Content

My final tip is a bit more involved than the others. Shareable content is the backbone of TikTok success. You can’t go viral without people sharing and circulating your content.
How, then, do you make content that people want to share?

There are a few ways to appr oach the topic. You can create funny videos, which people share to spread joy and laughter. You may also create informative content. Regardless of what genre you may be working under, a great way to ensure that your content is shareable is to organize it into curated lists.

One of the most common curated lists is a “best of” section. Here, you can highlight the best examples of your content, whatever they may be. You don’t have to limit yourself to just one curated list, though! You can create many categories of videos, such as:
  • Favorite Places to Take Photos
  • 5 Best Apps for ____
  • Best Resources for ____
  • 5 Products You Can’t Live Without
In addition to keeping your content organized, these lists or series of videos are a great way to establish continuity and presence on the platform. Depending on your goals, you can even monetize these videos down the road by integrating endorsements into certain categories of content.

Curated lists can also be tied into another important area of appeal for TikTok users, which is storytelling. Your content series can easily become the basis for a sort of autobiographical snippet of your life, which gives people a way to relate and engage with you.
